Deaf Bridges to Recovery

Deaf Bridges to Recovery (DBR), a unique program of CaringWorks located in downtown Atlanta, Georgia, offers an unparalleled residential environment for deaf and hard-of-hearing men experiencing homelessness and substance addiction. As the only program of its kind in the Southeast, DBR empowers participants with housing for up to two years, fostering sobriety, addressing mental health needs, and developing crucial skills for independent living within a supportive community.

The program delivers comprehensive, individualized treatment plans, including 1-on-1 counseling, medication management, and care coordination. Clients benefit from psychoeducation classes covering relapse prevention counseling and life skills, alongside case management services for employment and legal assistance. All services are provided by deaf and hard-of-hearing staff members, fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) and trained in evidence-based practices, ensuring culturally competent and effective care.

DBR creates an inclusive and accessible environment, featuring rooms with flashing lights, a dedicated deaf lounge with closed captioning, ASL and literacy classes, deaf NA meetings, and assistive technology. This specialized approach ensures that men receive the tailored support necessary to overcome challenges and reintegrate successfully into society. Eligible individuals must be male, 18+, low-income, homeless, and in need of substance abuse treatment.
