IAFF Center of Excellence

The IAFF Center of Excellence, situated on a serene 15-acre campus in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, is a premier behavioral health treatment and recovery center exclusively dedicated to professional fire service members. Specializing in trauma, particularly PTSD, and co-occurring disorders like alcohol addiction, the center provides evidence-based, multidisciplinary care. Their holistic approach treats the individual as a whole, addressing not only addiction but also underlying mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety. This Joint Commission accredited facility offers a comprehensive continuum of care, including clinically managed detox, inpatient residential, PHP, IOP, teletherapy, and robust aftercare planning. A wide array of therapeutic modalities are employed, including 1-on-1 Counseling, Art Therapy, Equine Therapy, Experiential Therapy, EMDR, and Family Therapy. Clients also benefit from Life Skills training, Motivational Interviewing and Enhancement Therapy (MET), Recreation Therapy, Relapse Prevention Counseling, Twelve Step Facilitation, and Yoga, ensuring a well-rounded path to healing. The campus features 7 buildings and unique station houses where clients reside, designed with a firehouse theme to foster camaraderie among peers with shared experiences. Beyond clinical treatment, the center offers a supportive environment with walking trails, animal-assisted intervention, an outdoor pool, and a fully equipped fitness center, alongside nutrition coaching. Their extensive aftercare includes alumni mentoring, return-to-work support, and connections to local healthcare, emphasizing sustained recovery and a return to fulfilling service.
